Tip:
Emergers like Compara-Dun's mimic the early stages of the mayfly lifecycle. The objective here is that the body of the mayfly sits below the surface film. At this point the mayfly is struggling to escape its nymphal shuck making it a vulnerable morsel for hungry trout. In many cases you may see duns on the waters surface and and the trout are focusing on the the emerging mayfly and will not take a dun imitation. Another scenario could be that the insect lifecycle is not always so kind to insects. Cripples occur often. These are nymphs that have not been able to escape the shuck and remain stuck making them easy pickens. Fish emergers dead drift as well as swing them in front of feeding trout.
